Volunteer Approval Process

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. Vipers RFC is run entirely by volunteers so your support is much appreciated.

There are 4 initial steps to the process for all those engaging in activity with under 18's or vunerable adults;

1. Complete RFU Volunteer Form

Prior to beginning any volunteering activity, the following document needs to be completed and returned to Helen Wrighten, Club Safeguarding Officer (viperssafeguarding21@gmail.com) with the appropriate Team Manager on copy.

2. Complete Introduction to Safeguarding

This online awareness course is for all involved in Age Grade Rugby and completion is compulsory prior to all DBS applications and prior to participation in England Rugby Coaching or Refereeing Award Courses.

The course ensures that everyone has a grasp of the basics in relation to safeguarding, including being able to recognise potentially abusive situations and understand how to report concerns.

Booked via the Course Administration Centre, it will take 30-40 minutes to complete; it is free, open to all.

3. Complete HEADCASE Concussion Awareness Training Module

This online course is for those individuals who require a record of completion of the module on their personal RFU GMS profile and/or as a pre requisite for participating in England Rugby training courses for coaches, match officials and volunteers.

4. Complete TackleSafe eLearning (for U9's and above)

This updated eLearning resource will support you to Coach & Referee the Tackle safely and effectively. It will cover; preparation to tackle; coaching through Skill Zone/ Game Zone approach, understand and apply the laws.

Booking for all courses can be found at https://gms.rfu.com/GMS/coursefinder

5. Submit DBS Information

The RFU uses the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) to operate and manage a criminal record checking process for those working with children or vulnerable adults.

Everyone engaged in a Regulated Activity must undertake a DBS check through their club, in accordance with Regulation 21.pdf (englandrugby.com)

Having a criminal record does not automatically prohibit an individual from undertaking a role working with children or vulnerable adults.

All DBS disclosures are handled confidentially, with every case treated on its own merit. On all occasions the RFU considers the welfare of the child paramount.

DBS Information required will be advised by Helen Wrighten, Club Safeguarding Officer and needs to be submitted to her within 4 weeks of first volunteering session.
